Oklahoma’s coaching staff saw many prospects across the country, and one on their schedule was 2026 left tackle Khalil Sanogo out of Mansfield Legacy (Tx). High School.
In preparation for Oklahoma’s important Junior Day event this weekend, the Sooners coaches hit the road this week.
The Oklahoma coaching staff visited several prospects nationwide, including 2026 left tackle Khalil Sanogo from Mansfield Legacy High School in Texas.
Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 280 pounds, the offensive tackle has started to attract attention from various programs, with Oklahoma’s offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh being one of the latest to meet him. Sanogo recently moved to Texas from Alabama. Although he’s still a developing prospect, he comes from NFL lineage, indicating a significant long-term potential. He’s definitely a name to watch. After his visit with Bedenbaugh last week, I spoke with him, and he described the experience as excellent.
Sanogo mentioned that he and Bedenbaugh primarily discussed his recruiting journey and the progress he has made since Bedenbaugh last saw him at Brent Venables’ camp last year.
“We talked about run blocking and pulling,” Sanogo explained. “In my sophomore season, my highlights mainly showcased my pass protection skills, which were my strength. Now, I’m proficient in both areas.”
Although Sanogo hasn’t received an offer from Oklahoma yet, one is expected to come soon. He has been a bit of a late bloomer regarding his recruitment and just this week started to get his first offers, including those from Texas State, Cal, and UNLV. Sanogo expressed that he really appreciates the OU coaching staff; since his performance at Brent Venables’ camp, the Sooners have remained in contact, sending him mail and social media graphics.
“They’re wonderful people,” Sanogo said. “I attended a camp this summer and absolutely loved how they treated me.”
Two weeks ago, Sanogo caught the attention of more coaches when he attended the You Are an Athlete camp, where high school football players from the region gathered in Dallas, Texas, to showcase their skills. The athletes competed in drills, one-on-ones, and evaluations, aiming for an invitation to the national camp in Houston this May. Sanogo distinguished himself as one of the top performers on the offensive line, which led to numerous visits from college coaches last week. He mentioned that he hasn’t established a visit schedule yet.
“Right now, I’m just waiting for all the colleges to express their interest,” Sanogo said.
