ACC Opponents Clemson Will Not Face: Cal, Miami, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest
Missing teams like Stanford, Virginia, and Wake Forest—who all failed to reach a bowl last year—could pose issues. However, if NC State bounces back, it will be significant to miss them. While not facing Pitt and Cal isn’t too concerning, skipping Miami is a letdown, especially since the two teams didn’t meet last year either.
Clemson Football Schedule: Pros and Cons
Pros: If Florida State underperforms again, the ACC schedule doesn’t look too daunting. Although traveling to Georgia Tech poses risks and there’s uncertainty about the game against Northwestern, home games against Syracuse, SMU, and Florida State should provide advantages. Starting the season against LSU is challenging, but at least it’s in the familiar environment of South Carolina’s Death Valley.
Cons: Ending the ACC schedule at Louisville is a tough task, especially if FSU returns to form and the conference matchup doesn’t go in Clemson’s favor. Additionally, facing South Carolina on the road adds to the challenges.
Best and Worst Case Scenarios
Best Case: The Tigers only leave South Carolina four times, sweeping all four ACC road games and defeating the Gamecocks in the last regular-season game. While there may be one hiccup along the way—like a loss to LSU or a challenging game at Georgia Tech—this is a strong possibility.
Worst Case: The Tigers fall to LSU in the opener, lose their ACC debut against Georgia Tech, which sets the stage for a difficult season. If Florida State or SMU pull off unexpected victories, it could be a brutal end, especially if South Carolina defeats them again in a tight matchup.
What Will Happen: (Jan. 29) If Clemson can overcome LSU, they’ll likely make a strong push in the rankings, though they may not be among the absolute elite teams. There will be a couple of challenging games—Florida State could be more competitive again, Syracuse is a potential threat, and various other hurdles exist. Still, Clemson should manage to achieve a 10-2 record and make another appearance in the ACC Championship. This projection will be updated multiple times throughout the offseason.
