Elite Star Alert: UNC Basketball Confirms Stunning News For In-State Five-Star

UNC basketball assistant coach Jeff Lebo popped by for heralded Lincolnton guard LJ Smith this week.

Five-star sophomore LJ Smith from Lincolnton High School (N.C.) will be visiting the UNC basketball program in Chapel Hill this weekend. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard recently told Phenom Hoop Report’s Patrick O’Brien that UNC is his dream school.

Smith, who is averaging 32.5 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 steals for his 17-4 team, will be at the Dean E. Smith Center to watch the Tar Heels (13-10, 6-5 ACC) face off against the Pitt Panthers (14-8, 5-6 ACC) at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday (ESPNU).

So far, UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis and his staff haven’t extended any offers to 2027 recruits. However, it seems their interest in Smith is growing significantly, as Tar Heels assistant Jeff Lebo was in Lincolnton on Thursday night to scout the talented scorer.

“I’m really excited to be on campus and watch a game in person to see how hard they play and experience the atmosphere,” Smith told O’Brien about his upcoming visit to UNC. “I think it’s a great program, one I’ve been watching since I was little. I like the way they play. It means a lot to know they’re recruiting me…”

Ranked No. 29 overall and No. 3 among North Carolina prospects in the 247Sports 2027 Composite, Smith already holds over a dozen offers, including from programs like Kansas, Tennessee, and Clemson.
