The Philadelphia Eagles saw two players return to practice from injured reserve on Jan. 30, positioning them to potentially play in Super Bowl LIX—provided they were activated before Sunday.
On Saturday, the Eagles officially added defensive end Brandon Graham back to their active roster, making him eligible to face the Kansas City Chiefs. However, tight end C.J. Uzomah was not activated, meaning he will be unavailable for the game.
With Uzomah remaining on injured reserve, Auburn will go a second consecutive season without an alumnus on the Super Bowl field. This comes after the program had at least one former player in the big game for eight straight seasons, a school record.
Super Bowl LIX between the Eagles and Chiefs is set for Sunday at 5:30 p.m. CST at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, with FOX broadcasting the matchup.
Uzomah was placed on injured reserve on Jan. 1 due to an abdominal injury, sidelining him after appearing in seven games during his 10th NFL season with the Eagles.
This isn’t the first time Uzomah has dealt with an injury leading up to a Super Bowl.
During the 2021 season, he suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 27-24 overtime win against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. Despite the injury, he recovered in time to play 49 offensive snaps and record two catches for 11 yards in the Bengals’ 23-20 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
Philadelphia has another Auburn alum on its roster, but offensive lineman Jack Driscoll is also on injured reserve. An ankle injury landed Driscoll on IR on Jan. 10 after he had played in 13 straight games, including a start in the regular-season finale.
