Ohio State Buckeyes Make Another Major Coaching Change

Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes have made yet another adjustment to their coaching staff.

Since leading the Buckeyes to a national championship, Day has been busy making changes to his coaching team. Following the championship victory, both offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles accepted offers from other teams.

In the wake of these departures, Day has been focused on finding replacements. While he has yet to hire a new defensive coordinator, he did promote Brian Hartline to the position of offensive coordinator.

Now, Day has made another shift within the staff.

According to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, Ohio State has promoted tight ends coach Keenan Bailey to co-offensive coordinator, while he will still retain his role as tight ends coach. Bailey will work alongside Hartline to help ensure that the Buckeyes have the best possible offensive game plans.

Bailey, who has been with Ohio State since 2016, has earned this promotion, and he will continue to play a crucial role in the team’s coaching staff.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Ohio State faces a tough challenge, having lost significant offensive talent to the NFL. Additionally, the team will be adjusting to a new starting quarterback. Julian Sayin is expected to take over after Will Howard’s departure, and the coaching staff will need to do significant work to help Sayin succeed in his first meaningful college playing time.

While this change isn’t earth-shattering, it adds depth to the coaching staff. Hartline will remain the primary offensive coordinator and will still have play-calling duties. Bailey’s role will be to support Hartline and contribute to creating the best game plans for each week.

On the tight end front, the Buckeyes also added former Purdue standout Max Klare, giving Bailey an exciting opportunity to work with a talented new player.

Although the 2025 season is still some time away, excitement is already building among fans, eager to see how Ohio State will defend their championship.
