Abdul Carter teases being drafted by the Tennessee Titans with first overall pick after watching hometown Eagles win Super Bowl LIX

NASHVILLE – Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter is widely regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.

With 12 sacks during his junior season, Carter earned the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year award and is now a strong contender to be selected first overall by the Tennessee Titans.

Carter, who grew up in Philadelphia, watched his hometown Eagles dominate in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night with a stellar defensive performance. Following the win, he hinted at why it would make sense for the Titans to choose him in April.

Carter’s tweet echoed a statement made by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who told Erin Andrews that “defense wins championships” after the Eagles were crowned Super Bowl champions.

That statement has never seemed more accurate, especially after the Eagles’ commanding defensive display. Philadelphia forced three turnovers and sacked Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes six times, keeping Kansas City scoreless for nearly three full quarters. The Eagles’ defensive line set the tone for the entire game, showcasing the importance of a strong pass rush.

If the Titans were to draft Carter, they would be adding a foundational defensive player to build around. In the short term, Carter would complement defensive stars like Jeffery Simmons and T’Vondre Sweat.

While there may be temptation to select a quarterback, Carter’s impressive play and the success of a Super Bowl-winning defense could influence the Titans’ draft approach.
