The Big 12 Conference Announces the Men’s Basketball Weekly Award Winners With Some Shocking Newbies

Kansas State’s David N’Guessan and Arizona’s Tobe Awaka earned Big 12 men’s basketball weekly honors after playing key roles in extending their teams’ win streaks, the longest active runs in the conference.

N’Guessan averaged 21.0 points and 7.5 rebounds as Kansas State secured its fourth and fifth straight victories. The Dutch National Team forward set a career-high with 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a 71-70 win over Arizona State, scoring eight of the team’s final 11 points in the last 5:31. He followed that up with a 20-point, seven-rebound performance in an 81-73 victory against then-No. 16 Kansas in the Dillons Sunflower Showdown, finishing his career undefeated against the Jayhawks at Bramlage Coliseum. This marks his first Big 12 Player of the Week honor.

Awaka delivered back-to-back 14-point performances while averaging 10.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, helping Arizona extend its unbeaten streak to six games—the longest in the Big 12 and tied for second-longest in a Power 4 conference. The junior from Hyde Park, New York, nearly recorded a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds in just 18:30 of playing time during an 85-74 win over BYU. He later secured his fifth double-double of the season in an 82-73 victory over No. 12 Texas Tech, keeping Arizona tied at the top of the Big 12 standings. Awaka is the first Arizona player to earn Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors.
