One possible future Steeler has had his value looked at by an ESPN insider.
PITTSBURGH — As the Pittsburgh Steelers head into another offseason, the need for a wide receiver remains crucial, prompting rumors and speculation about potential targets from around the league.
One of the names being mentioned is Deebo Samuel, who may be available for trade after a challenging season for the San Francisco 49ers, marked by significant injuries.
ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, who covers the 49ers, suggests that Samuel could be attainable for less than many would anticipate. In an article discussing Samuel’s trade request, Wagoner shared his insights on Samuel’s potential value.
“Given that Samuel had a subpar season and is entering the final year of his contract, along with the possibility of other top receivers being available in trade or free agency, a Day 3 draft pick plus another late-round pick might be enough to satisfy the 49ers,” Wagoner explained. “If the trade market is weak, the 49ers might have to accept a lower offer unless they include more picks with Samuel.”
While other wide receivers, like Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams, are expected to command a higher price, Samuel’s relatively low value should draw the attention of teams in need of a receiver. Despite his underwhelming performance in 2024, the minimal assets required to acquire him could prompt the Steelers to explore the possibility of a trade.
However, this doesn’t guarantee that a deal for Samuel is imminent, even if the Steelers express interest. Last offseason, they attempted to acquire another 49er, Brandon Aiyuk, who subsequently re-signed with his team. Though Samuel and Aiyuk have different playing styles, a favorable price doesn’t ensure a transaction for the Steelers.
