Cleveland Guardians Add Catcher Cameron Barstad to Minor League Contract
The Cleveland Guardians have signed catcher Cameron Barstad to a Minor League contract, and he will participate in the team’s MiLB Depth Camp during Spring Training. The 2025 Spring Training for the Guardians began on Tuesday, with pitchers and catchers reporting to the team’s complex in Goodyear, Arizona.
As the team prepares for the upcoming season, Cleveland has bolstered its Minor League roster with the addition of Barstad.
Barstad played 65 games for the High-A Beloit Sky Carp in 2024 before being released in early August. The 24-year-old posted a .221 batting average, 29 RBIs, and a .678 OPS last season. He ranked in the top-15 among Midwest League catchers in categories such as hits (49), total bases (79), doubles (12), home runs (six), RBIs (29), and walks (29).
Originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the sixth round of the 2018 MLB Draft from Junipero Serra High School in California, Barstad made his professional debut in 2019 with the Gulf Coast League Marlins. Over 15 games, he recorded six hits, one home run, and five RBIs.
Barstad spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads before starting 2023 with 18 games in Jupiter. He was then promoted to High-A Beloit. Over his time with Single-A Jupiter, he posted a .206 average with 85 hits, 27 doubles, eight home runs, 43 RBIs, and 55 walks in 120 games. He finished the 2023 season with 52 games in Beloit, where he batted .236 with 38 hits, 13 doubles, three home runs, 28 RBIs, and a .700 OPS.
