The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly exploring the possibility of trading for quarterback Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to Ryan Burr of the Big Ten Network, the Steelers have reached out to inquire about acquiring the former first-overall pick.

Lawrence, 25, was selected first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft with high expectations as a future star quarterback. However, despite the initial hype, some coaching changes and inconsistent performance have left questions about his full potential. Over four NFL seasons, Lawrence has thrown for 13,815 yards, 69 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions, including a league-high 17 interceptions in his rookie year.

Looking ahead, Lawrence’s 2025 salary cap hit is projected at $17 million, with his five-year, $275 million contract escalating to a $78.5 million cap hit by 2029. The largest cap charge before then is $47 million in 2028, though the contract includes an out that offseason with no dead cap penalty.

A potential trade for Lawrence would be a major move and likely require at least a first-round pick. With Pittsburgh seeking a solution at quarterback, the former No. 1 overall pick offers significant upside and could become the foundational piece the Steelers are looking for.
