The Houston Texans are reportedly set to hire Frank Okam, a former teammate of DeMeco Ryans, as their new assistant defensive line coach. Ryans is bringing in Okam to strengthen the team’s defensive line as part of their ongoing efforts to improve and compete in the tough AFC.
The Texans are focused on making every offseason move count to rise above their competitors. A report from Aaron Wilson of KRPC 2 in Houston indicates that Okam, who has coached Toledo’s defensive line since 2023, will be joining Ryans’ staff. Okam brings a wealth of experience, having played for the Texans from 2008 to 2010, alongside Ryans. He also shares a close connection with defensive line coach Rod Wright, as they both played together at the University of Texas, where Okam was part of a National Championship-winning team.
Okam’s coaching background also includes stops at Baylor and with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022. With his deep knowledge of the league, the Texans, and winning culture, this move should bolster Houston’s defense as they continue to build a strong team around their standout young players like C.J. Stroud and Will Anderson.
