Four-star running back Jaylen McGill has decided to reopen his recruitment after a short-lived commitment to Rutgers. The South Carolina native is regarded as one of the top prospects in his state and is gaining more attention as he approaches his senior season.
After decommitting from the Scarlet Knights, McGill didn’t hold back, making it clear he had moved on.
The 2026 prospect holds offers from several top programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. South Carolina has also extended an offer to the in-state standout.
McGill initially committed to Rutgers in January following a recruiting visit that included a stop at Madison Square Garden.

Less than three weeks later, Jaylen McGill changed his mind, reopening his recruitment entirely. Many expect him to choose a school closer to home.
A recent social media post further fueled speculation, as he stated his intention to “Put on for his city,” hinting that his next commitment could keep him in the Palmetto State.
On Wednesday, McGill officially announced his decision to decommit from Rutgers. In his farewell post, he expressed gratitude to the Scarlet Knights’ coaching staff for the opportunity.
The next day, McGill seemingly took a jab at the program by “liking” a comment about his reopened recruitment.
The remark came from a thread on X featuring a debate between Rutgers and Clemson fans. After a Clemson supporter took a shot at Rutgers football following McGill’s decommitment, the running back showed his agreement.

Just a month ago, Jaylen McGill was set to join the Scarlet Knights. Now, that connection appears to be severed. However, he has numerous opportunities closer to home in the SEC and ACC. It remains to be seen which program will secure the talented running back.
