Ravens Consider Trading Star Playmaker in Bold Proposal
Could the Baltimore Ravens part ways with one of their top players in a blockbuster trade?
This offseason, the Ravens are faced with a tough decision regarding tight end Mark Andrews. Trading or releasing him would save the team $11 million, which would significantly ease their tight salary cap situation.
However, Andrews has been Lamar Jackson’s go-to target since Jackson entered the NFL in 2018, making the idea of letting him go a difficult one for the team.
Despite the challenges, Marcus Mosher of The 33rd Team believes it’s a real possibility and has proposed a trade where the Ravens send Andrews to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a third-round draft pick.
“Mark Andrews has been a highly productive player for the Ravens over the years, but Isaiah Likely is in the final year of his contract and is clearly seen as the future at tight end,” Mosher explained. “Andrews is also in the last year of his deal, with nearly $17 million counting against the cap. Could the Ravens choose to move on this offseason, clear some cap space, and give Likely a full-time role? It seems likely, as the Ravens have a history of being proactive in moving on from players a year early.”
Andrews’ poor playoff performance against the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round may still be fresh in Ravens fans’ minds, but the reality is that he has been a dependable pass-catcher for years, earning three Pro Bowl selections. In fact, this past season, Andrews recorded 55 receptions for 673 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns, showing that he still has much to offer.
However, with Likely potentially ready for a larger role, Andrews may become expendable. Given Baltimore’s financial constraints, trading him may not be out of the question.
