Steelers Eye Potential Move for Jets All-Pro WR
The Pittsburgh Steelers are in need of a top-tier wide receiver after a season marked by underperformance from star George Pickens and a lack of depth at the position.
A potential shift from the New York Jets could drastically alter the Steelers’ future.
With the Jets parting ways with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, it appears they’re also moving on from his former Packers teammates, Allen Lazard and Davante Adams.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, who covers the Jets, both Adams and Lazard “are likely to be released in the coming weeks.”
Although Adams is aging, his production remains impressive across every team he’s been with. Even at this stage, he could provide reliable secondary receiver production, being a three-time All-Pro selection.
Entering his 12th NFL season, Adams is looking to continue playing at an elite level with his next team. With the Steelers holding the ninth-most cap space this offseason, they could afford to pursue Adams. However, signing him would likely limit their ability to address other positional needs, forcing the Steelers to make difficult decisions.
One such need is at quarterback. Signing Adams without securing a strong quarterback would be risky, as Adams has proven unable to elevate a team on his own and requires a good quarterback to perform at his best.
If the Steelers do pursue Adams, he would be their second wide receiver with ties to Aaron Rodgers, following the acquisition of Mike Williams at the 2024 trade deadline. However, Williams didn’t meet expectations, with his only notable contribution being a game-winning touchdown against the Washington Commanders.
