Steelers Anticipated to Lose Two Key Starters
The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to further revamp their offense this season, with reports indicating the departure of two starters.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reported that the Steelers will likely part ways with offensive linemen James Daniels and Dan Moore Jr., both of whom started games at various points last season.
Dulac noted, “Some of those decisions have likely already been made. For example, they are not expected to re-sign two of their starting offensive linemen — left tackle Dan Moore Jr. and guard James Daniels — allowing them to enter the free agent market on March 12.”
Daniels started the first four games of the season before suffering an Achilles tendon injury. His departure comes as no surprise, as the Steelers had previously indicated they wouldn’t pursue re-signing him, signaling the end of his time with the team.
Moore has been the Steelers’ starting left tackle for four years, and this shift reflects the team’s focus on their younger offensive line talent. Broderick Jones and Troy Fautanu have both shown potential, and the possibility of drafting additional linemen could further reshape the offensive line.
This overhaul of the offensive line may bring a much-needed boost to the Steelers, especially since they don’t appear to be in contention for a top quarterback. An upgraded offensive line could help elevate an average quarterback, and the potential rise of Jones and Fautanu is enough to encourage the Steelers to make these changes.
