Tulane Green Wave shapes out football personnel department with new offensive and defensive recruiting specialists.
The Tulane Green Wave have expanded their recruiting team for the upcoming 2025 college football season.
Recently, Tulane football introduced new offensive and defensive recruiting specialists, all working under their director of football recruiting.
Kyle Schexnayder, who was formerly the offensive recruiting specialist, has been elevated to director of recruiting, reflecting head coach Jon Sumrall’s approach of promoting talent from within the department. He will oversee defensive recruiting specialist Colton Leggett and offensive recruiting specialist Keith Domino.
Leggett’s appointment was announced on February 7, while Schexnayder’s promotion came just three days later, clarifying Leggett’s previously ambiguous role. Following the departure of Hunter Sims, the former director of defensive recruiting who moved to a general manager position, Leggett joined shortly thereafter.
On February 17, Tulane brought in Keith Domino, who previously served as Central Connecticut’s offensive recruiting coordinator and running backs coach, to take on the role of offensive recruiting specialist. Domino had transitioned from coaching tight ends the prior season.
This restructuring signals a strategic plan under Sumrall and Schexnayder, demonstrating a collaborative vision for the recruiting department with a three-pronged approach. While Sumrall is introducing fresh perspectives with Leggett and Domino, they will report to someone already familiar with the program from the 2024 season.
In a previous interview on Josh Pate’s College Football show, Sumrall highlighted the importance of internal promotions for staff retention and growth. “I believe in fostering professional development and creating opportunities for our team,” Sumrall said. He emphasized the smooth transitions that come from promoting from within, while also acknowledging the value of bringing in external perspectives to enhance their approach.
As college football continues to evolve, programs must adapt accordingly, a sentiment echoed by Sumrall as he integrates insights from various recruiting departments into a cohesive vision shaped by his existing staff.
