Cincinnati Reds starter Nick Lodolo is sending a strong message ahead of the 2025 season, feeling better than ever and ready to dominate. After a promising rookie year, Lodolo faced a series of injuries over the last two seasons, but he’s now poised for a breakout campaign.

When Lodolo arrived at camp, he was already showing impressive results. According to Reds General Manager Brad Meador, Lodolo’s dedication in the offseason paid off, as he came into camp in the best shape of his career. “The guys are here early. Everyone took their offseason seriously. Nick Lodolo looks strong. It’s the best shape he’s ever been in,” Meador shared on the Reds Hot Stove League show. “He came in, he did all his testing and beat personal records on everything.”

Lodolo himself echoed this sentiment, saying, “I’m in the best spot I’ve ever been coming into camp. I feel the best. I’m excited for it. I think it’s going to help me a lot.”

The 27-year-old left-hander pitched a career-high 115 1/3 innings in 2024 but struggled with multiple injuries, which led to four different stints on the injured list. Reflecting on his past challenges, Lodolo admitted, “I’ll be honest. I was training like a Sunday leaguer because I couldn’t move and was expecting to be a Major League pitcher. This offseason, I put in the work. I was moving, getting stronger, and building the base. As we get deeper into the season, that base will carry me through the whole time.”

Reds Manager Terry Francona is also impressed by Lodolo’s offseason progress. “I was like, ‘Holy [cow]. He looks the part.’ It’s a 6-6 lefty,” Francona said. “He’s worked hard this winter. He had a good offseason because he could actually do some stuff that he couldn’t do before. That will help with getting deeper into games, stamina. Hopefully it keeps him healthy. If he stays on the mound, he’s going to be exciting.”

Lodolo’s renewed focus and physical readiness signal that he could finally leave behind the struggles of the past and deliver the dominant season the Reds have been hoping for. With a live bullpen session already under his belt and continued improvement in his performance, Lodolo is on track to make a significant impact in the 2025 season.
