Could Kyren Williams Be a Ram for Life?
There are hints that Kyren Williams could receive a contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams, but will he spend his entire career with the team?
The Rams made a great pick in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft when they selected running back Kyren Williams at pick 164. Since then, Williams has emerged as one of the NFL’s top running backs, and now the question is whether he deserves a contract extension.
Although Williams still has some time before hitting free agency, it might be in the Rams’ best interest to secure him long-term before the possibility of him considering other options arises.
However, as we’ve seen with other players, signing a lengthy extension doesn’t always mean a player will finish their career with that team. Take Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp as an example—after signing a contract extension post-Super Bowl MVP, the Rams are now reportedly looking to trade him.
Williams has been a key contributor to the Rams since entering the league. Over the past two seasons, he’s rushed for over 1,000 yards, setting a career high in 2024 with 1,299 yards, which ranked him seventh in the NFL.
Rams fans are eager to see Williams remain part of the team’s future, but does that sentiment resonate with him? In a recent interview with ESPN’s Sarah Barshop, Williams addressed the topic directly.
“I don’t want to be bounced around everywhere,” Williams said. “But no, L.A. is definitely a spot that I see myself being at, calling home. But that’s not up to me. I just got to continue to do what I do best, and that’s putting in the work and going out there on Sundays to make sure that that work is rewarded.”
Williams has consistently ranked among the league’s top rushers and has expressed his love for Los Angeles. While the ultimate decision rests with Rams general manager Les Snead, retaining Williams for the long term would likely be a smart move for the team.
