Chargers Sign Former Titans DB to Contract Extension

The Los Angeles Chargers have secured the future of their secondary by signing a former Tennessee Titans defensive back.

The Chargers announced they’ve extended Molden’s contract after he enjoyed a career-best season in his first year with the team. According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the extension is a three-year, $18.25 million deal with $13.5 million guaranteed.

Molden, 26, was a third-round pick by the Titans in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Washington. As a rookie, he started seven games and appeared in 16, totaling 62 tackles (three for loss), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four pass breakups, and one interception.

His first interception came in Week 8 of the 2021 season on a two-yard pick-six against the Houston Texans, giving the Titans a 31-24 lead with just over a minute left in the game. The Texans would tie it before Tennessee eventually won in overtime.

Injuries limited Molden to just two games the following season, but he bounced back in 2023 with another solid performance. He started eight of 15 games, finishing with 73 total tackles, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, seven pass breakups, and another pick-six.

Despite his contributions, the Titans traded Molden to the Chargers before the start of this past season, and he capitalized on his contract year. Molden started 12 of 15 games for the Chargers, recording career highs in tackles (75), pass breakups (seven), and interceptions (three).

Molden had the opportunity to face his former team in Week 10 of the season when the Chargers hosted the Titans, and he enjoyed a 27-17 victory.
