The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., expressed its support for a resolution recently passed by the student senate at North Carolina State University. This resolution recognizes the victims of the 2015 Chapel Hill shooting and condemns anti-Muslim hate crimes.

Entitled the “Our Three Winners Remembrance Act,” the resolution also celebrates the positive contributions of Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu-Salha to the Raleigh community and the university. It acknowledges the ongoing efforts of organizations such as the Our Three Winners Foundation, The Light House Project, DYOR Clinic, Al-Iman School, and the Islamic Association of Raleigh in promoting advocacy and remembrance.

In a statement, CAIR remarked:

“We commend the North Carolina State student senate for adopting this resolution to commemorate and honor the three young individuals who lost their lives due to hatred. Their legacy inspires all those with a sense of justice to combat anti-Muslim bigotry as well as all forms of hate.”
