The Philadelphia 76ers have officially signed Lonnie Walker IV, marking the completion of their roster move. This announcement came after the Sixers’ loss to the Boston Celtics on Thursday night. Earlier this week, reports revealed that the team was finalizing a deal with Walker, who has been playing overseas during the 2024-2025 NBA season. Daryl Morey, the President of Basketball Operations for the Sixers, confirmed the signing on Friday.

Walker, a native of Reading, Pennsylvania, was selected 18th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2018 NBA Draft. After playing one season with the Spurs, Walker appeared in 61 games during his second year, contributing six points per game. In his third season, he started a career-high 38 games and played in 60 total games. In his fourth season, although not a starter, Walker played 70 games and averaged 12 points and three rebounds, shooting 31% from beyond the arc.
During the 2022-2023 season, Walker had his most efficient shooting season with the Los Angeles Lakers, hitting 45% of his field goals and averaging 12 points per game. He then signed with the Brooklyn Nets in the offseason, where he appeared in 58 games as a reserve. After a stint with the Nets, Walker joined the Boston Celtics, but they waived him after the preseason, prompting him to play for Žalgiris Kaunas in the Lithuanian Basketball League and EuroLeague.
Now returning to the NBA, Walker joins the struggling 76ers, who have lost six consecutive games, including their 124-104 defeat to the Celtics on Thursday. He will look to find a role and contribute to the team.
