ESPN Analyst Defends Oklahoma Sooners Amid Fan Controversy

It’s tough to admit, but the Oklahoma Sooners are struggling in their athletics department at the moment. In the sports where they should be dominating, they’re falling short, with the exceptions of softball, baseball, and a bit of women’s basketball.

Their fanbase is making their frustrations known, notably by not attending some of the games. In men’s basketball, for example, one could argue that the lack of a new venue plays a part, but it could also be said that fan support is lacking due to the team’s prolonged struggles.

SEC Network broadcaster and OU alum Dari Nowkhah joined The T-Row in the Morning Show to discuss his comments from Saturday night.

It’s all leading to a lot of finger-pointing. However, joining the SEC means the Sooners must have strong fan support for every game, something that’s been missing in men’s and women’s hoops and even football at times this year.

Oklahoma alum Dari Nowkhah addressed the situation on The REF, acknowledging the financial benefits of joining the SEC, but also highlighting the rise in expectations for both performance and fan engagement. “It’s great for football and softball, but in this league, there’s no offseason,” he said. He added that he doesn’t want the perception of his beloved alma mater and fanbase to be looked down upon by the SEC.

There are certainly many improvements needed across the Sooners’ athletics, but at the end of the day, they will need the support of their fans if they want to compete at the highest level in the country’s top sports conference.
