The Ohio State Buckeyes have been working hard to secure a top-tier quarterback for the 2026 college football recruiting class. Unfortunately, it seems the momentum might not be in their favor, particularly concerning the nation’s top-rated quarterback. With Will Howard entering the NFL draft, Ohio State is gearing up for a quarterback competition next season. Former 5-star recruit Julian Sayin appears to be the frontrunner for the starting QB role, although he will face significant competition from 5-star freshman Tavien St. Clair in the coming months.
Looking ahead, the Buckeyes received some disappointing news regarding a 2026 recruit. Jared Curtis from Nashville Christian has narrowed his options down to two programs, and the Buckeyes were not among them. On3.com’s Hayes Fawcett reported on Saturday that Curtis is now only considering the Oregon Ducks and Georgia Bulldogs.

Earlier, On3 had Ohio State as the frontrunner to recruit Curtis, assigning the Buckeyes a 39.5% chance of signing the quarterback, while Georgia was at 29.5%. After winning the national championship, Ohio State coaching staff members even FaceTimed Curtis from Atlanta, Georgia.
“It’s incredible to see that support and for them to go out and win it all!” Curtis said to On3’s Steve Wiltfong on January 20. “I believe this year they demonstrated their potential, and I think they will continue to improve!” On3 estimates Curtis’ current NIL value at $ 3 million, making him a significant investment for any program that secures the top-rated quarterback in the 2026 class.
