Mets Receive Unfortunate Injury Update on Starting Pitcher Sean Manaea

The New York Mets are likely to begin the season without starting pitcher Sean Manaea, as he is dealing with a right oblique strain, according to manager Carlos Mendoza.

Mendoza announced on Monday that Manaea will be “shut down” for a few weeks, and it’s expected that the pitcher will start the 2025 season on the injured list. A specific timeline for his return has not been set.

In his first season with the Mets in 2024, Manaea had a career-best year, starting 32 games with a 12-6 record and a 3.47 ERA, which was the lowest of his career when making over 25 starts. He also struck out 184 batters and walked 63 across a career-high 181 2/3 innings. Manaea made four postseason starts during the Mets’ run to the National League Championship Series, earning a 2-1 record, a 4.74 ERA, and 19 strikeouts.

Impressed by his performance, the Mets signed Manaea to a three-year, $75 million contract in December.
