Detroit places Andrew Copp on injured reserve
DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings have recalled center Sheldon Dries from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins and placed center Andrew Copp on injured reserve.
At 30 years old, Dries has played 48 games for the Griffins in the 2024-25 season, leading the team with 19 goals and ranking fourth in points with 27. He also holds a plus-six rating and ranks sixth in penalty minutes (29). Additionally, he has contributed three power play goals, six power play points, one shorthanded goal, and six game-winning goals, while taking 108 shots.
During the 2023-24 season, Dries played the entire year with the AHL’s Abbotsford Canucks, finishing with 29 goals (first on the team), 23 assists (seventh), and 52 points (tied for third). His overall AHL stats include a plus-six rating, 45 penalty minutes, six power play goals (tied for second), and four shorthanded goals (first) across 55 games. He also totaled three points (1-2-3) in six Calder Cup Playoff games with Abbotsford. Dries began his professional career after being signed by the AHL’s Texas Stars as a free agent in May 2017 and has since accumulated 26 points (16-10-26) and 59 penalty minutes in 122 NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche and Vancouver Canucks.
Originally from Macomb, Michigan, Dries played four years at Western Michigan University from 2013 to 2017, serving as team captain during his sophomore, junior, and senior years. He recorded a total of 84 points (44-40-84) and 136 penalty minutes in 148 games and was named to the NCHC’s Second All-Star Team in his senior year. Before his college career, Dries notched 87 points (41-46-87) and a plus-34 rating in 116 games with the Green Bay Gamblers in the USHL, contributing to their Clark Cup championship in 2012. On the international level, he helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge, collecting seven points (1-6-7) in four games.
