Texas Longhorns DB Coach Terry Joseph Leaving for NFL Position

The Texas Longhorns are losing another key assistant coach to the NFL.

Terry Joseph, the Longhorns’ defensive backs and safeties coach, is reportedly leaving the program to join the New Orleans Saints, according to OrangeBloods.com’s Anwar Richardson. Joseph becomes the second Texas assistant to make the jump to the NFL, following running backs coach Tashard Choice, who accepted a position with the Detroit Lions. Additionally, safeties coach Blake Gideon took the defensive coordinator job at Georgia Tech.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Joseph will take on the role of defensive passing game coordinator under new Saints head coach Kellen Moore.

Joseph joined the Longhorns at the start of Steve Sarkisian’s tenure in 2021, playing a significant role in developing several NFL prospects, including Ryan Watts, Anthony Cook, Thorpe Award winner Jahdae Barron, and future NFL draft prospect Malik Muhammad. He also helped Notre Dame’s Kyle Hamilton become a high draft pick during his time there.

As a recruiter, Joseph was instrumental in bringing in five-star prospects like Kobe Black, Derek Williams, and Malik Muhammad, and was also a key figure in landing Arch Manning. He contributed to the recruitment of numerous other talents, including Warren Roberson, Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Austin Jordan, and many others.

Before his time with the Longhorns, Joseph had stints at Notre Dame (2018-2020), North Carolina (2017), Texas A&M (2014-2016), Nebraska (2012-2013), and Tennessee (2010-2011).

This will be Joseph’s first position at the NFL level.
