UCLA Expected to Have Four Players Selected in Latest Mock Draft

UCLA could see its name called four times during this draft season if the latest predictions hold true. With the NFL Scouting Combine on the horizon, the five Bruins invited have one last chance to improve their draft stock. Pro Football Network’s latest seven-round mock draft has four UCLA players being selected over the course of the three-day event.

Oluwafemi Oladejo is projected to be picked by New Orleans with the 111th overall pick, followed by Carson Schwesinger, who is expected to be taken by San Francisco at 112th overall.

Moliki Matavao is forecasted to go to the Chicago Bears at 197th, and the 49ers are set to pick their second Bruin, Jay Toia, at 255th overall.

“As the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis quickly approaches, much is expected to change as prospects and team personnel gather,” wrote PFN’s Joe Deleone. “One of the most compelling storylines to watch will be which teams initiate trade talks to move up and secure one of the few standout quarterbacks. Let’s examine a draft scenario that could alter the trajectory of two franchises.”

In this mock, the New York Giants trade with Tennessee to select Cam Ward as the first overall pick.

The prospect of Oladejo joining New Orleans is intriguing, as the Saints recently hired Brandon Staley as their defensive coordinator. Staley, known for his versatile 3-4 defense and creative nickel pass rush packages, could use Oladejo similarly to how he deployed LB Tuli Tuipulotu as a dynamic pass rusher. Oladejo might be used in that same rotational role in New Orleans.

San Francisco’s selections of Schwesinger and Toia are solid, with both fitting well into the 49ers’ defense under defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Saleh’s 4-3 defense is a great match for Toia, who is an ideal nose tackle for that system, while Schwesinger’s aggressive playstyle will allow him to disrupt the line of scrimmage.

Matavao’s potential move to Chicago is another intriguing fit. The tight end could be replacing former Bruin Marcades Lewis or Gerald Everett. Matavao has the versatility to play both as a hand-in-the-dirt and standing-up tight end, making him a solid TE2 behind Cole Kmet in the Bears’ offensive system under new head coach Ben Johnson.
