Colts Look to Replace Free Agent Starter in Latest Mock Draft

The Indianapolis Colts may look to secure a new starter with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Following a disappointing end to the 2024-25 season, the Colts face several key free agents heading to the market, creating potential vacancies on both sides of the ball. This makes the upcoming draft a critical chance to infuse new talent into the roster.

Throughout the offseason, the Colts have been linked to several players, including Penn State tight end Tyler Warren and Georgia safety Malaki Starks, both of whom could make an impact. However, the Colts might choose a different path with their 14th overall pick.

CBS analyst Garrett Podell predicts that the Colts will select Missouri offensive tackle Armand Membou with their first-round pick. Membou, 20, has emerged as one of the SEC’s top linemen this year.

“With Will Fries set to become a free agent, the Colts could have a gap at right guard, so they choose Armand Membou, a 2024 second-team All-SEC right tackle who could transition to guard,” Podell explained.

Given that Membou is currently a tackle, it’s uncertain whether he can effectively move to guard. If the Colts cannot retain Fries, one of the top offensive free agents this offseason, they might need to find a replacement.

At 6-foot-3 and 325 pounds, Membou is slightly smaller than Fries. Nevertheless, he has proven himself to be a solid lineman, excelling in both run blocking and pass protection.

Membou earned a 90.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus for the 2024 season and is ranked 23rd on their big board. Taking him 14th overall could be a reach for the Colts, especially if they are banking on his ability to switch positions.

Fries was ranked fourth out of 135 eligible guards by PFF this season, so replacing him won’t be easy. However, Membou could be a valuable asset in protecting quarterback Anthony Richardson next season.
