Chargers urged to sign Davante Adams as a key offseason move
The Chargers could enhance their offense by adding a top-tier weapon for Justin Herbert this offseason. Davante Adams’ time with the New York Jets was underwhelming. The team acquired the All-Pro wide receiver during their early-season struggles, but it had little impact, as the Jets finished the 2024 season with a 5-12 record. The franchise is now looking to overhaul its offense following the disappointment of the Aaron Rodgers experiment.
Adams carries a $38 million cap hit for 2025 with the Jets, and many anticipate his release. The Chargers could be a potential landing spot, as they’re in need of a reliable No. 2 receiver alongside Ladd McConkey. ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry believes the Chargers should pursue Adams as soon as he becomes available.
“If the Jets move on from Adams, the Chargers should sign him without hesitation. In Jim Harbaugh’s first season, they lost in the wild-card round with an underperforming offense. Justin Herbert needs a true No. 1 receiver, and Adams is a perfect fit.”
While this claim might seem exaggerated, as McConkey already proved himself as a legitimate No. 1 receiver with over 1,000 yards as a rookie, Adams still had solid production despite playing for struggling teams. He finished the season with over 1,000 receiving yards and eight touchdowns for both the Jets and Raiders. At 32 years old, Adams is likely seeking a championship contender for the final years of his career.
The Chargers could be an ideal destination for Adams.
