Jeremiah Smith, the standout wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes, has shown himself to be one of the most dynamic players in the country, and no one understands that more than the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame is likely still reeling from Smith’s pivotal 56-yard catch in the fourth quarter of Ohio State’s National Championship Game victory over the Irish in January, a play that played a major role in sealing Notre Dame’s loss.
When asked about Smith at the NFL Scouting Combine, Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts shared a strong opinion on the Buckeyes’ star.
“He’s a very talented player… the way he’s physically built, he’s a freak athlete,” Watts said, according to Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors.
Watts, a talented player himself and a potential first-round NFL Draft pick this April, gave Smith a significant compliment.
Smith’s 2024 season surpassed expectations, as he was already considered one of the top wide receiver prospects to come through Ohio State. Some even claimed he might be the best receiver prospect in college football history.
As a freshman, Smith recorded 76 catches for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 17.3 yards per catch.
During Ohio State’s College Football Playoff run, he scored five touchdowns and had five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Buckeyes’ National Championship win.
Smith won’t be eligible for the NFL Draft until 2027, meaning Ohio State will have him for at least a couple more seasons.
