Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers have received disappointing news about one of their top wide receiver targets this NFL offseason.
It’s clear the Panthers need to add more weapons around Young, especially after his strong finish to the 2024 season. Young appears to have the potential to be a star, but the Panthers must surround him with the right pieces to help him succeed.
Given their limited cap space, Carolina’s best option might be to trade for a wide receiver still on his rookie contract to avoid a major cap hit.
That’s why New York Jets star Garrett Wilson had been viewed as a potential top target for the Panthers, particularly after he publicly praised Young on social media. However, Wilson is reportedly seeking a contract extension with the Jets, which likely ends any hopes the Panthers had of acquiring him.
RUMORS: Garrett Wilson “wants to re-up” with the Jets. A long-term deal will go a long way in keeping Garrett happy. He could look for a deal worth ~$30M APY (@ZackBlatt).

The Panthers probably didn’t have a real chance at trading for Wilson anyway, especially after news that the Jets would be moving on from Aaron Rodgers, with whom Wilson may not have had the best relationship.
It’s a tough blow for Carolina fans, who now have to remove a top playmaker from their offseason wish list. The Panthers currently have Adam Thielen, Xavier Legette, and Jalen Coker as their top receivers. Thielen could potentially be a trade candidate, and Legette underperformed during his rookie year.
Carolina may still explore other trade options or sign a hidden gem in free agency. The NFL Draft is always an option too.
It will be interesting to see how the Panthers proceed in the coming weeks.
