Certainly Not a Surprise as Seth Jones Gets Brutally Honest on Blackhawks Amid Trade Plea

Seth Jones has reached the end of his patience with the Chicago Blackhawks, expressing his desire to leave. In a recent game, the Blackhawks lost 2-1 to the Utah Hockey Club, being outshot 36-22 and with a total of 93 shot attempts compared to Utah’s 39. Jones netted Chicago’s sole goal in what marked the team’s fourth consecutive loss and their seventh in eight games. The Blackhawks sit six points deep in last place in the Central Division with just 41 points, the lowest in the NHL besides the San Jose Sharks.

“This has been nearly four years of being at the bottom of the league for me,” Jones commented after the game. “It’s not just about this year.” After a tough 23-53-6 season last year, the Blackhawks brought in veterans like Taylor Hall, Tyler Bertuzzi, and Pat Maroon to support Connor Bedard. However, 58 games into the season, there has been no visible improvement in the team’s performance.

“We’re the exact same team right now as we were game 1. It’s pretty evident out there. We haven’t made any strides to be a better, more simple hockey team, and it shows.”

“We’re exactly the same team now as we were in Game 1. It’s clear when you watch us play. We haven’t taken any steps to improve and become a more straightforward hockey team, and that’s obvious.” Jones has asked for a trade from Chicago and recently mentioned to The Athletic that his agent, Pat Brisson, is coordinating with management to finalize a deal before the March 7 trade deadline.

However, the 30-year-old defenseman faces several hurdles. He is tied to an eight-year contract with a full no-move clause and a $ 9.5 million cap hit until the 2029-30 season. While trade talks are ongoing, relocating his contract will be a complex task.
