Georgia Tech Announces Three New Coaching Hires, Including Linebackers Coach Darius Eubanks
Georgia Tech has officially confirmed the addition of three new staff members, including Darius Eubanks as the new linebackers coach.
Eubanks joins the Yellow Jackets from Georgia Southern, where he spent the past two seasons. In 2023, he coached the secondary before transitioning to linebackers coach and run game coordinator in 2024. During his time at Georgia Southern, Eubanks helped guide two all-conference linebackers in 2024, including the Sun Belt Conference’s leading tackler and Defensive Player of the Year, Marques Watson-Trent. He also contributed to the Eagles’ top 30 national ranking in interceptions in 2023, thanks to all-conference safety T.J. Smith.

A former linebacker and defensive back at Georgia Southern from 2009 to 2012, Eubanks played in 50 of 52 games, accumulating 260 tackles and 22 pass defenses. He was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection as a senior and helped lead the Eagles to three NCAA Division I FCS semifinal appearances.
Eubanks went on to play in the NFL for four seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After his NFL career, he began coaching as a defensive line graduate assistant at Arkansas in 2017, before moving on to Samford as safeties coach (2018-19) and defensive backs coach/co-special teams coordinator (2021). Eubanks also served as safeties coach at Georgia State and defensive backs coach at Liberty before a defensive assistant fellowship with the Miami Dolphins in 2024.
Eubanks has coached five all-conference honorees, an FCS All-American, three players ranked in the top 15 nationally in interceptions, and five players who went on to the NFL. He has also helped guide his teams to bowl games in each of his four seasons as an FBS-level coach.
In addition to Eubanks, Georgia Tech also announced the hiring of Brendan Farrell as the senior strategist for special teams and game management and Alex Mathis as the executive director of recruiting. Farrell joins from the Miami Dolphins, where he spent five seasons, including a notable stretch from 2020 to 2022, during which Miami blocked punts for three consecutive seasons. In 2019, the Dolphins’ fake field goal against the Philadelphia Eagles won the NFL Play of the Year.
Mathis comes to Georgia Tech from UCF, where he served as the executive director of recruiting after spending three years as the assistant director of player personnel. He played a key role in helping UCF land three top-40 recruiting classes. Before his collegiate career, Mathis spent eight years coaching and coordinating recruiting at Georgia high schools, including a state championship with Fredrica Academy in 2018.
