Why Dakorien Moore Has the Most to Prove in His Freshman Season at Oregon
Five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore is one of the most exciting recruits for the Oregon Ducks, already drawing comparisons to standout freshmen like Alabama’s Ryan Williams and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith.
During the offseason, Oregon assembled one of the nation’s top recruiting classes, ranking No. 5 in the country for 2025, ahead of elite programs such as Tennessee, Penn State, and Notre Dame. The Ducks secured commitments from some of the nation’s top talent, including three five-star recruits. Among the highly ranked newcomers, Moore is arguably generating the most buzz.
Moore’s commitment to Oregon in July made him one of the highest-ranked recruits in the program’s history. Ranked as the No. 1 receiver prospect nationally, Moore had the opportunity to choose any school but decided on Oregon. His combination of natural athleticism and a dominant high school career has fans expecting a breakout season as a true freshman.

College football has seen a new wave of freshmen, like Alabama’s Ryan Williams and Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, who have defied age expectations, quickly becoming top targets for their teams while earning national recognition. Both players dominated experienced secondaries, including Oregon’s defense, which struggled against Smith in the Rose Bowl. In that game, Smith posted seven receptions for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
Could Moore be the next freshman receiver to make a similar impact? With his physical abilities and the resources available at Oregon, he has the potential to do so, but now he must prove he’s deserving of the hype.
“Dakorien Moore is one of the highest-ranked recruits ever to sign with Oregon and plays a position that could benefit from additional talent,” said Low. “The Ducks would love for him to make the same kind of impact as Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Alabama’s Ryan Williams did as freshmen.”
Not only does Moore have the potential to become Oregon’s top wide receiver, but the depth chart also offers him a chance to make an immediate impact. After the 2024 season, the Ducks lost receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden to the NFL Draft. While returning starter Evan Stewart, along with Justius Lowe and Jurrion Dickey, are in the mix, Moore will be battling for a starting role throughout the offseason.
At 5-11, 182 pounds, Moore plays bigger than his size and is known for his elite speed. He excels at explosive route running and is dangerous after the catch. In his senior year of high school, Moore scored 18 touchdowns and accumulated 1,043 yards on 74 receptions.
If Moore can carry his high school success into college, he has the potential to be the next freshman receiver to captivate the nation and contribute to a national championship run for Oregon.
