Cardinals unearth new rising star after breakthrough With Big Ten Edge Rusher

The Arizona Cardinals have recently met with Big Ten edge rusher Oluwafemi “Femi” Oladejo, a linebacker who could be a target for them on Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Oladejo, a product of UCLA, confirmed he had an informal interview with the Cardinals during the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, joining a growing list of linebackers who have spoken with the team.

Oladejo spent four seasons in college, playing for both UCLA and Cal, and accumulated 240 tackles, six sacks, and two interceptions over 47 games. In his final season, he transitioned from an off-ball linebacker to a full-time edge rusher, recording 4.5 of his six career sacks in this new role.

His shift to edge rusher was smooth, and he possesses the physical attributes for the role, standing at 6’3″ and weighing 259 pounds. With the right coaching and further development, Oladejo could grow into a key contributor at the next level.

However, the transition from off-ball linebacker to edge rusher requires more than just learning new techniques; it involves developing different instincts. While Oladejo’s versatility could make him valuable as a hybrid player, it’s important for a team to focus on his growth as a full-time edge rusher to avoid stalling his development.

The Cardinals have shown interest in versatile defenders, with players like Mack Wilson and Owen Pappoe drawing attention due to their ability to handle multiple roles. Oladejo could fit that mold, but Arizona should prioritize helping him fully embrace his edge-rushing duties before experimenting with his alignment.

As the draft process progresses, Oladejo’s stock could rise, with NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein predicting he could eventually become a solid starting player. Oladejo is now on Arizona’s radar as a potential Day 2 pick, and the fit could be a natural one if the team focuses on his development as an edge rusher.
