Deebo Samuel Sends Message to 49ers After Being Traded to Commanders

Deebo Samuel’s time with the 49ers was filled with ups and downs. Meanwhile, the Washington Commanders have made it clear that they planned to be aggressive in the offseason following their NFC Championship loss to the Eagles.

After a standout rookie season by former No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels, it makes sense—and is nearly essential—for Washington to strengthen their roster. Daniels had a historic rookie campaign, throwing for 2,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and rushing for 891 yards.

With the quarterback position settled for the future, the Commanders are focused on building around Daniels, and it looks like they’ve started that process early.

On Saturday evening, it was announced that the Commanders had traded a 5th-round pick to acquire Deebo Samuel from the 49ers.

There had been speculation that Washington was interested in Samuel, especially with current GM Adam Peters, who previously served as the 49ers’ assistant general manager, having strong ties to the team.

After the news broke, Samuel quickly took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message with the 49ers and their fans, saying, “Appreciate y’all for everything!!!!!” alongside a video highlighting his plays in San Francisco. Though Samuel’s time in San Francisco had its controversies, the Commanders are hopeful that this move will serve as a fresh start as he joins a promising young quarterback in Daniels.

Samuel will team up with Terry McLaurin in the wide receiver corps, but Washington’s front office, led by GM Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, will likely continue to make moves during the NFL Draft and free agency as they aim to make a return to the NFC Championship and potentially a Super Bowl next season.
