Injury Update on A’s Left-Hander Brady Basso

The Athletics roster is nearly finalized, but Brady Basso, who had an outside chance of making the team as either a starter or a long reliever, saw his prospects take a hit this week. MLB.com’s Martín Gallegos reported that Basso has been shut down due to a left shoulder strain, and there is currently no timeline for his return.

Basso, 27, made his MLB debut last season with the Atlanta Braves, pitching out of the bullpen before being added to the A’s rotation in September. Over four starts, he posted a 3.79 ERA in 19 innings. He began his A’s stint with two impressive starts, combining for 11.1 scoreless innings, but struggled in his final two, giving up eight runs in 8.2 innings.

This spring, Basso had made two appearances as a starting pitcher, logging 4.1 scoreless innings with no hits allowed, one walk, and four strikeouts. In total, including last season, he has pitched 8.1 innings in spring training, giving up just one hit and two walks.
