Bruce Pearl Criticizes Texas A&M Fans After Auburn’s Upset Loss
Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl had some pointed comments for Texas A&M fans after his team’s 83-72 loss to the Aggies on Tuesday.
While he acknowledged the Aggies’ strong performance, with Texas A&M physically dominating the game, Pearl took issue with the fan turnout at Reed Arena.
“Texas A&M has made great strides under Coach Buzz Williams and his staff,” Pearl said after the game. “They’re doing things as well as anyone. But that should have been an impossible ticket to get in March. The game should’ve been sold out for weeks since the No. 1 team in the country was coming here, yet there were still empty seats. I’m just a coach, but Coach Williams, that place should’ve been packed for that team tonight.”
Pearl’s comments certainly stand out, given the circumstances.
However, according to the Texas A&M Men’s Basketball media team, the attendance for Senior Night at Reed Arena was nearly a sellout, with 12,257 out of 12,989 seats filled for the matchup against Auburn. Additionally, the season’s average attendance was 10,095, the second-highest in program history. This indicates that over 2,000 more fans than usual attended the Senior Night game.
Despite the attendance, the Aggies dominated the No. 1 team from start to finish, suggesting that the atmosphere at Reed Arena may have played at least some role in the victory.
