The Boston Bruins appear to be in selling mode as the trade deadline approaches, and one major name potentially on the move is star defenseman Brandon Carlo.
Potential Blockbuster Trade Proposal
Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, one user proposed a major deal that would send Carlo to the Dallas Stars.

This hypothetical deal would significantly strengthen Dallas’ defense, adding Carlo as a top-four defenseman to an already competitive roster. The 27-year-old blueliner is in the fourth season of a six-year, $24.6 million contract and has contributed nine points (one goal, eight assists) this season while excelling as a shutdown defenseman.
For Boston, the return package would include two future draft picks, Bourque as a young NHL-ready forward, and Dumba as an immediate replacement on the blue line. Dumba, currently in the first year of a two-year, $7.5 million deal, has five assists on the season. The Bruins would also acquire Minnetian’s signing rights, a 2023 fourth-round pick currently playing at Boston College.
Bruins Unlikely to Move Carlo
While Boston is expected to sell at the deadline, reports indicate that the team may not trade Carlo. According to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff, the Bruins are leaning toward keeping the defenseman despite external interest.
“While there has been interest and discussions, it sounds like the Bruins are leaning towards keeping defenseman Brandon Carlo,” Di Marco wrote on X.
Carlo, a second-round pick by Boston in the 2015 NHL Draft, has played his entire career with the team, registering 109 points (29 goals, 80 assists) in 616 games. He also holds a modified no-trade clause, allowing him to submit a 10-team no-trade list, giving him some control over any potential move.
Stars Exploring Defensive Options
Dallas has already been active before the deadline, acquiring forward Mikael Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci. However, general manager Jim Nill indicated that the team is still looking for ways to strengthen the roster, particularly on defense.
“You can never have enough defensemen,” Nill told NHL.com. “So, when we look at some of that, we’ll see what’s on the market. That’s probably the biggest obstacle right now—what’s available until we get a full feel for what’s out there.”
With a 40-19-2 record and sitting second in the Central Division, the Stars are in win-now mode. While it’s unclear if Carlo will be made available, Dallas remains an active buyer leading up to the deadline.
