Los Angeles Rams Receive Big News in Advance of Free Agency

Rams Secure Wide Receiver Tutu Atwell with New Contract Ahead of Free Agency

The Los Angeles Rams have made a key move to solidify their receiving corps heading into 2025. With Matthew Stafford returning and the team still exploring trade options for Cooper Kupp, the Rams have reached an agreement with wide receiver Tutu Atwell.

As reported by insider Adam Schefter, Atwell has signed a one-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $10 million.

Standing at 5-9 and weighing 165 pounds, Atwell was drafted by the Rams in the second round (57th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft, serving as the team’s top pick that year. Despite the Rams not having a first-round selection, Atwell has proven valuable over his four years with the team.

Atwell has provided Stafford with a reliable option behind Kupp and, more recently, Puka Nacua. With both Kupp and Nacua sidelined by injuries last season, Atwell posted career highs in receptions (42) and receiving yards (562), though he did not score a touchdown. He did, however, make a key play in the postseason, catching an 18-yard pass from Stafford to help the Rams move into the Eagles’ red zone during their divisional playoff game on January 19. Despite the Rams’ efforts, they were ultimately stopped by the Eagles, who advanced to the NFC Championship.

Atwell was set to enter free agency, but with this new deal, the Rams now have more flexibility as they focus on other key decisions, including the future of DeMarcus Robinson in McVay’s 2024 offense.

Over his four years with the Rams, Atwell has accumulated 1,343 yards and four touchdowns on 99 receptions. Originally a return man at Louisville, he also handled kick returns as a rookie for the Rams but hasn’t returned kicks since 2021.

As per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Atwell’s new contract includes a $5 million base salary and a $5 million signing bonus, effectively removing him from the free-agent market.

Atwell’s new deal comes amid a deep receiver market, with other notable players like Kupp, DK Metcalf, Davante Adams, Tyler Lockett, Stefon Diggs, and Chris Godwin all available through trade or free agency.
