Breaking News: Stars Close to Acquiring “Highly Desired” NHL Powerhouse, Extension Reached!

After finalizing terms on a new contract extension, Mikko Rantanen is being traded to the Dallas Stars at the deadline.

TSN’s Darren Dreger reports that after extensive negotiations between Mikko Rantanen’s camp and the Dallas Stars, a resolution has been reached. He indicates that their in-depth discussions have put an end to speculation about Rantanen being traded to Dallas.

Although the deal has yet to be finalized, Dreger states, “I believe he’s settling for the $12 million per year as we’ve discussed.” Elliotte Friedman also weighed in on the extension, adding, “Eight years, $12 million AAV. That would get the deal done.”

Details on what the Stars are sending to the Carolina Hurricanes in the trade are still unclear, but the return is expected to be substantial.

Rantanen Changes His Mind on a New Contract

Leading up to the deadline, reports suggested that Rantanen was hesitant to commit to any team before free agency. After being caught off guard by the trade that sent him out of Colorado, the expectation was that only one or two teams might have a shot at signing him. However, he planned to take his time to ensure he made the right decision.
