The Washington Capitals have acquired left wing Anthony Beauvillier from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the Capitals’ 2025 second-round pick, just ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline on Friday, according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman. Beauvillier, 27, is in the final year of his contract, which carries a $1.25 million cap hit.
So far this season, Beauvillier has scored 13 goals and accumulated 20 points in 63 games after signing with Pittsburgh on July 1, 2024.
Over the course of his 613-game career in the NHL, Beauvillier has played for Pittsburgh, the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, and Nashville Predators, totaling 129 goals and 266 points.
In the postseason, Beauvillier has registered 16 goals and 31 points in 55 games, including a standout performance in 2020-21, where he recorded 14 goals and 27 points in 41 games during the Islanders’ back-to-back conference final appearances.
This acquisition adds depth to the Capitals’ lineup, particularly on their third line, which has struggled with consistency this season. Washington, who ranks second in the NHL with an average of 3.58 goals per game—just 0.02 behind the Tampa Bay Lightning—also sits tied for 10th in power-play efficiency at .237. Beauvillier’s addition provides another scoring option for a team that has been potent offensively.
