Rockets Star Shares Candid Thoughts on Zion Williamson After Pelicans Game
The Houston Rockets defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 109-97 on Thursday night, handing the Pelicans a tough loss after their four-game road trip. New Orleans started strong with 34 points in the first quarter, but their offensive struggles in the second and third quarters allowed Houston to pull ahead with a double-digit lead.
The Pelicans scored just 38 points in the second half, shooting under 40% for the game. Zion Williamson had a slow start, failing to get many calls from the referees, and only managed 6 points in the first half. However, he finished with a double-double, totaling 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Houston’s Alperen Sengun led the team with 22 points, helping the Rockets score 62 points in the paint. The Rockets’ defense also disrupted the Pelicans’ ball movement, limiting them to just 17 assists. Sengun spoke about the game plan to contain Williamson and the Pelicans’ offense:
“They have Zion, so that was the gameplan, we had to help and push in transition to make him tired, and that’s what we did.” Houston dominated the fast-break points, winning that battle 23-12.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday in Houston for the final game between them this season. With the Rockets’ victory, they’ve now won three straight games and secured the season series against the Pelicans. The win also ended Houston’s eight-game road losing streak. Saturday’s game in Houston is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. EST.
