Bobby Witt Jr., the rising star of the Kansas City Royals, has been named the favorite for the 2025 AL MVP award, surpassing Aaron Judge, according to MLB.com’s Sarah Langs. Despite Judge’s dominance in the league, Witt, who finished second to Judge in last year’s MVP voting after a stellar season at age 24, is now considered the top contender for the upcoming award.

Witt’s performance in 2024 was nothing short of remarkable, earning him MVP-caliber recognition. Langs believes Witt’s all-around abilities—his power at the plate, speed on the bases, and Gold Glove defense—make him a prime candidate to take the MVP title, especially if Judge’s performance takes a slight dip. Witt’s ability to lead his team and deliver consistent production makes him a legitimate MVP contender.

Last season, Witt made history as the first shortstop in MLB to achieve back-to-back 30-homer, 30-stolen base seasons. He also led the league with a .332 batting average and 211 hits, all while playing outstanding defense at one of the most challenging positions in the game.

Witt, turning 25 in June, is entering his prime, and the question now is whether he can continue to improve. If he matches or exceeds his 2024 performance, the MVP could very well be his—especially if Judge’s incredible offensive pace begins to slow.
