Seahawks GM Proposes Alternative Path for DK Metcalf Following Trade Request

DK Metcalf requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, after six seasons with the team. While the Seahawks are open to exploring trade options, they are not willing to give him away cheaply.

As reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Seattle is seeking a first-round and a third-round pick in exchange for their star wide receiver. Despite strong interest from potential suitors, the asking price is steep. Seahawks general manager John Schneider indicated that the team is willing to wait for the right offer, even if it means Metcalf staying for the final year of his contract.

“We’re talking to a ton of teams, taking offers, seeing what that looks like,” Schneider said during a radio appearance on KIRO-AM, as noted by The Athletic.

Schneider emphasized that while the Seahawks will consider Metcalf’s best interests in the trade talks, the primary focus remains on doing what’s best for the team.

“Hopefully both those things merge and it’s an ideal situation,” he said. “Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully, in this situation, it does, and that would be great. But worst-case scenario, we have an amazing, explosive, powerful athlete playing receiver for us again in 2025. So, we’ll see where this goes.”

While the timing of Metcalf’s trade request came as a surprise, coinciding with the celebration of Tyler Lockett’s career in Seattle, Schneider assured that the team is doing its best to make both sides happy. Although Metcalf desires a move, his relationship with the team remains repairable, and they would be open to welcoming him back next season, despite the trade request.

At 27 years old, Metcalf has accumulated 438 receptions for 6,324 receiving yards and 48 touchdowns in his six NFL seasons.
