Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy Arrested
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested for assault in Texas on Friday.
The Chiefs are now facing another offseason setback following the arrest of Worthy in Texas. According to Fox26Houston’s Will Kunkel, Worthy was taken into custody in Williamson County on a criminal charge of assaulting a family or household member by obstructing their breathing or circulation.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Chiefs issued the following statement: “We are aware and gathering information.”
Worthy, who was selected as the Chiefs’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had an impressive career with the Texas Longhorns before being chosen with the No. 28 overall pick.
This marks the second consecutive offseason where a young Chiefs receiver has faced legal trouble. Last year, wide receiver Rashee Rice was involved in a high-speed hit-and-run in Dallas.
As of now, Rice has not been suspended by the NFL, as the league typically waits for criminal proceedings to be resolved before considering potential suspensions.
With Worthy’s arrest, there is now a possibility that the Chiefs could have two receivers facing suspensions during the 2025 NFL season. Additionally, the team is dealing with potential departures at the receiver position, as free agents Hollywood Brown and DeAndre Hopkins are both set to leave.
“Over the last two years, we’ve added two great receivers. It’s unfortunate Rashee (Rice) got hurt because I believe he had the potential to be a top-10 receiver, and the progress (Xavier) Worthy made last year shows they could form a dynamic pair. We’ll see if we can bring Hollywood back, but the receiver position will always be one we don’t shy away from,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said last week at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Worthy appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the Chiefs in his rookie season, recording 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, along with 20 rushes for 104 yards and three touchdowns. During the playoffs, he played in three games, catching 19 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns, while adding three rushes for eight yards.
