Jets Emerge as Serious Threat to Steelers’ QB Plans
The New York Jets are becoming a growing concern for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback plans. As the start of the legal tampering period on March 10 approaches, the Steelers find themselves in a tense standoff with Justin Fields.
The Steelers’ interest in Fields is no secret, and at 26 years old, he is considered the ideal fit for their quarterback needs this offseason. However, negotiations between the two parties do not seem to be progressing, putting the Steelers in a precarious position, as Fields currently holds all the leverage.

If a deal isn’t reached before Fields is allowed to speak with other teams, Pittsburgh could face significant competition. With numerous quarterback openings around the league, Fields is expected to spark a bidding war in free agency.
The New York Jets have been frequently mentioned as a potential destination for Fields, particularly after their new leadership officially ended the Aaron Rodgers pursuit. FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz added further weight to this speculation on Friday, reporting that the Jets are high on Fields.
“Multiple sources have told me the #Jets are high on Justin Fields,” Schultz wrote on X. “They love his athleticism, leadership skills, his ability to move the pocket, and most importantly, they believe his best football is yet to come. Could Fields be GM Darren Mougey’s first major free-agent signing?”
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is no stranger to Fields, having faced him frequently during his time as the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator while Fields played for the Chicago Bears from 2021 to 2023.
While the Steelers are reportedly hoping to secure Fields with a short-term deal, there could be some hesitation on his part, especially after being benched for Russell Wilson in Week 7 last season, despite performing well in his six starts.
Talks between Fields and the Steelers are believed to be ongoing, but time is running out. If Pittsburgh can’t find a way to keep him before Monday at noon EST, they could be forced to pivot to other options.
