Jets Reportedly Losing DJ Reed to NFC Super Bowl Contender
It appears the Jets are set to lose one of their star players to a contender in the NFC.
While the Jets were able to re-sign standout linebacker Jamien Sherwood to a three-year deal on Sunday, good news for their defense, they will reportedly be losing star cornerback DJ Reed. According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Reed is expected to sign a three-year, $48 million deal with the Detroit Lions, which includes $32 million fully guaranteed.
“Breaking: Free agent CB D.J. Reed plans to sign with the Lions on a 3-year, $48M deal that includes $32M fully guaranteed, multiple sources tell NFL on FOX,” Schultz shared. “One of the top corners on the market lands a lucrative deal in Detroit.”
Reed, who was one of the top cornerbacks available, is only 28 years old. After previously signing a three-year, $33 million contract with New York, he’s now set to earn even more. Though he was a valuable asset to the Jets, it looks like the team will need to find a replacement at cornerback this offseason.
The Lions, who lost cornerback Carlton Davis III early in free agency, are now bringing in Reed to fill the void.
They should draft CB Will Johnson with the 7th pick now and draft a QB in the mid Rds now.
