While Cooper, the top NBA draft prospect, didn’t have his best shooting night, he still contributed significantly with 15 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and four blocks. On Sunday, Kelly took to Facebook to address the viral moment, criticizing the UNC fans for their “classless” behavior towards her family. She explained how she and her husband, along with Cooper and his teammates, were harassed by the crowd at the Dean Smith Center. Kelly apologized for her strong language in the video but explained that the celebration was about pride for her son and a response to the rude treatment from the Carolina fan base. She concluded with a bold message to UNC fans: “If you didn’t like it… tough! Better luck next time! Go Duke.”
With Cooper’s impressive talent and likely NBA future, this could very well be the last time Kelly faces Tar Heel fans, as her son is expected to be a top pick in the upcoming draft. If he declares, he’ll leave Duke with a perfect 2-0 record against UNC in the regular season.
