The Philadelphia Eagles are losing cornerback Isaiah Rodgers to the Minnesota Vikings.
Rodgers, who spent one season with the Eagles, has signed a two-year, $15 million deal with the Vikings, which includes $8 million in guaranteed money.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the signing, and it was later confirmed by a separate source to Philadelphia Eagles on SI. Rodgers, 27, attracted interest from multiple teams, with at least five in the mix, ultimately resulting in a “healthy market” for his services.
Rodgers performed well as the Eagles’ CB3 last season, stepping in for Darius Slay and Quinyon Mitchell when they were injured. While Rodgers’ smaller size (5-foot-10, 176 pounds) and a previous gambling suspension that sidelined him for the 2023 season had some predicting a lower contract, his strong film from his time with the Eagles helped secure a lucrative deal. Rodgers’ speed, solid technique, and instincts on defense allowed him to thrive, playing 421 defensive snaps (including the postseason).
The Vikings were in need of a cornerback after losing Pro Bowl selection Byron Murphy, and with veterans Stephon Gilmore and Shaq Griffin on the decline, Rodgers’ ability to compete for a starting outside role was a key factor in his decision. The Vikings also likely valued Rodgers’ potential as a special teams contributor, particularly as a kickoff returner with his long speed.
While the Eagles’ cornerback situation remains fluid, they still have strong young talent with rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, as well as rising star Kelee Ringo.
